19:45 – Caliche Ridge @ 5/2
Caliche Ridge has had six tries at breaking his maiden but despite running solid on every occasion, has yet to do so. However, to my eye this is by far his weakest assignment, he steps down from a credible run in better company at Sam Houston. I’m not convinced by Concrete Finisher over a mile and I think a replication of his previous run should be good enough for Caliche Ridge here.

20:15 – Dreaming Silent@ 18/1
Dreaming Silent looks a very attractive each-way price. Tonight is the first night of the season at Will Rogers and plenty are just using this five and a half furlong race as a blowout for the season ahead. Dreaming Silent has had his run to blow off the cobwebs and although he ran no race, he has back class and the switch to a new stable could be what he needed. Trainer Scott Young is as formidable a trainer you’ll find at this venue (17% Strike Rate last year at the track) and I think his charge makes appeal here especially given we’re paying 4 places here.
20:45 Rookie Season @ Evens
Not a bad little race but I think Rookie Season could make the rest look just that. As a 3-year-old he was quite highly thought of, winning a stakes race here by 12 lengths. Since then things haven’t gone to plan with an 18-month layoff amongst a few poorer efforts but he goes very well fresh. He showed himself to be ready with a bullet 4-furlong workout at the track just a week ago and I think at this 6-furlong trip he should have the lead and burn off everything else.
