Legends Ryde left the form of her hurdling debut well behind when second at Huntingdon last time, keeping on well in gruelling conditions to be beaten just a length and a half.
That effort was much more in keeping with her fairly useful bumper form, and, with the heavy ground here unlikely to be an issue on that evidence, she looks to hold obvious claims of going one better, and is very much the one to beat on Timeform ratings with further improvement on the cards.
Martha Brae will also be suited by the extra emphasis on stamina and can give the selection most to do.
Pres has filled the runner-up spot in three of his four starts since winning at Lingfield in November, producing his best effort yet when finding only a progressive sort too good at Newbury last time. The return to positive tactics appeared to suit him that day, and the way he rallied after being headed at the last was typical of him, showing an excellent attitude to go down by less than a length.
The six-year-old certainly showed enough to suggest there are more wins in him, and, back down significantly in grade today, he is likely to find few better opportunities than this to get his head back in front. Heavenly Promise is feared most ahead of Definately Vinnie.
Going update for tomorrow's fixture – HEAVY, showers today and tomorrow – if forecast is correct there is no risk to racing going ahead – six races from 2.15pm. Tickets £12 in advance, £17 on the day – https://t.co/AwCCTukA90pic.twitter.com/tUV2dRdnmT
Alan Hill does well with his recruits to this discipline and Sir Mangan appeals as another likely sort after making the switch from Dan Skelton.
Admittedly, he is well into the veteran stage of his career at the age of 12, but similar comments apply to most of his rivals here – several of whom arrive with even more to prove – and it’s worth remembering that he was still capable of fairly useful form as recently as last season.
He probably won’t need to be near that level to land the spoils in a weak heat, making him the value play at the current odds.
