Marsh Novices Chase tips: Our experts debate the winner of the Cheltenham race

Ruby Walsh, Frank Hickey, Lizzie Kelly, Paul Jacobs and Paddy Power were speaking at a live recording of our From the Horse’s Mouth Podcast

FRANK HICKEY

I think this is a much weaker race than the RSA. Itchy Feet was impressive back at Sandown at the start of February, but I don’t think that was much of a race. I’m very keen on Allaho. He’d be my bet of the week if he runs.

RUBY WALSH

If Faugheen runs he’ll win. He’s the best here.

PAUL JACOBS

I hope Fakir Doudairies doesn’t go to the Arkle and runs here instead. This is his optimum trip, pure and simple. It’s one I don’t want to go to war on to be honest, I’d rather leave it.

PADDY

I think if Allaho runs here he’ll be very likely to win. The safer bet might be Mister Fisher each/way. I know Ruby likes Faugheen, but I think his run at Leopardstown at the start of February could mean he’s peaked too soon. He ran so well it was like his Gold Cup. He might be over-cooked.

LIZZIE KELLY

Itchy Feet ran really well last time out at Sandown in the Scilly Isles Novice’s Chase. I thought he stayed on really well, which should count him in good stead. I think he’ll suit the hill at Cheltenham and I really like him. He’s a nice horse.
