Horse Racing Tips: 6 to do the trick at Southwell on Monday

We're on the road for a few winners, and Southwell looks like the best destination on Monday

14:05 – AVENUE OF STARS (7/4)

Avenue of Stars is on a long losing run but took a step back in the right direction when fourth at Newcastle, getting to within two lengths of the winner. He was outpaced a couple of furlongs out but rallied well close home and looks to be on a fair mark. This is not a strong race and he can snap the losing sequence.

14:35 – ANNA MARIA (5/2)

Anna Maria is a half-sister to three winners, including the smart Duke of Firenze, and she produced a promising effort, despite showing clear signs of inexperience, when finishing fourth at Wolverhampton on her debut in December. She failed to improve as expected at Newcastle last time, finishing third of four, but she still looked too green to do herself justice and is entitled to improve.

15:05 – ADAMS PARK (5/2)

Adams Park remains a maiden after 15 outings but he made an encouraging start on Fibresand here last time, finishing well to grab third. He appears to be on a fair mark and could still have more to offer on this surface, so he makes plenty of appeal for Mick Appleby. He could be given most to do by the penalised Accessor, who has been in good form recently and struck over course and distance last week.

15:40 – NATIONAL ANTHEM (2/1)

National Anthem was below his best when fourth here last month but he had won his two previous outings here, so is clearly fully effective on the surface. He took a step back in the right direction at Newcastle last time, finding only one too strong, and he could still have more to offer. He gets the vote over Jack The Truth, who produced a career-best effort to score at Lingfield on his reappearance last week and has gone well here before.

16:10 – AUNT HELEN (3/1)

Aunt Helen ran creditably to finish third on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton last month, getting to within a length and a half of the winner. That effort showed she is on a decent mark and, given her lightly-raced profile, she could still have more in the tank. The chief threat is the penalised Maykir, who showed improved form to win a minor event here last week.

16:45 – EQUIDAE (11/10)

Equidae has been in excellent heart since the cheekpieces have been applied and he bounced back to winning ways here last time, travelling fluently in front and quickening nicely to score by three lengths. He looks well treated under a 5 lb penalty and can follow up.
