Schmoozie has improved with each start in maiden/minor company on the all-weather this winter and appeals as the type to progress further now sent handicapping. She wasn’t disgraced behind an impressive winner in a fair race when third at Wolverhampton last time, forced wide on the home turn but making good headway in the straight when the winner had flown.
An opening mark of 70 shouldn’t prove beyond her and she has the assistance of a capable claimer on board, so a big run is expected.
Roca Magica is building a good record over this C&D, winning two of her last three starts here in minor events, and will remain of interest back in a handicap. Ed Dunlop continues in good form, and Roca Magica won with enough in hand last time to suggest she can follow up.
She has to carry a 5lb penalty, but this doesn’t look the strongest of races, and it will be disappointing if she isn’t bang in the mix.
Mick Easterby hasn’t had many runners of late but Enlighten is of interest now making his handicap debut over hurdles. He has seemingly been brought along with handicaps in mind, jumping better than previously when not beaten far in a novice at Haydock last time and, though he will have to improve to defy an opening mark of 114, he has the potential to.
He will be particularly interesting if strong in the betting.
