The Queen Mother Champion Chase is the leading minimum-distance chase in the National Hunt calendar and is the feature race on day two of the Cheltenham Festival.
The Grade 1 race will take place at 3.30pm on Wednesday 11 March, run on the Old Course over a distance of about 2 miles with 13 fences to be jumped.
Established in 1959 as the National Hunt Two-Mile Champion Chase, the race was given its present title in 1980 – the year of the Queen Mother’s 80th birthday – in recognition of her support for jump racing.
The Queen Mother was a runner-up in this race in 1976 with her Game Spirit losing out to Skymas.
The Queen Mother Champion Chase has a total prize fund of £400,000 and is open to horses aged five years and older.
The highlight of Ladies Day at Cheltenham, the race has been won three times by horse Badsworth Boy with jockeys Pat Taaffe and Barry Geraghty both enjoying five victories each.
Last year the Nicky Henderson-trained Altior won for the second successive time and is among a competitive field again this time around.
