The Cheltenham Gold Cup is the Blue Riband of jump-racing, a fitting finale for the Cheltenham Festival on its final day.
The Grade 1 race will take place at 3.30pm on Friday 13 March, run over a distance of around 3 miles and 2½ furlongs with 22 fences to be jumped.
There is a total prize fund of £625,000 for the Gold Cup, making it the most valuable non-handicap chase in Britain, with the steeplechase open to horses aged five years and older.
The most prestigious of all National Hunt events, the Gold Cup has an illustrious list of winners such as Arkle, Best Mate, Golden Miller, Kauto Star, Denman and Mill House.
Nothing can rival the Cheltenham roar as the horses charge up the famous hill with Al Boum Photo breaking Willie Mullins’ duck in the great race last year.
Ireland’s champion trainer has another couple of contenders in the field this season, which will be watched by over 70,000 racegoers on day four at the Festival.
