Ruby Walsh: Bellshill beats Kemboy and Al Boum Photo seven days a week at home

We have just never managed to get the Bellshill that we see at home to come to the track and do it.

Ruby Walsh Bellshill horse

Bellshill is the wrong price at 14/1 for the Irish Gold Cup. He won the race last year, he will have improved equally as much since Christmas as Kemboy. He’s not that far behind him and Presenting Percy and with the offer of money back if he finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, that’s a cracking bit of value for Bellshill.

Willie used to always think that Bellshill would be his Gold Cup horse and I was the same. He had different preparations for different races and things didn’t go right for him.

But, if you were to stand on Willie Mullins’ gallop this morning and watch Kemboy, Al Boum Photo and Belshill coming at you, Belshill would put the other two up on his back seven days a week.

We have never managed to get the Bellshill that we see at home to come to the track and do it. But, the day he does, where we can someday manage to get the homework onto the race track, he’s a better horse than any of the other two.

I don’t know what the exact issue is with him? He was very good when David Mullins won a Gold Cup in Punchestown on him, then he carried a huge weight and threw away an Irish National. It’s there, it’s just a matter of channelling it in the right direction.
