Happy Monday! At least it is for one lucky – or should I say ‘exceptionally skilled’ – racing punter from the village of Knockcroghery in County Roscommon.
For this week’s racing punter of the week – our award for the man or woman who lands the longest odds win – turned €5 into nearly €8,000 on Saturday within just 55 minutes.
And, in truth, for much of the time it was never really in doubt, as three of the four winning selections – off at 5/1, 11/1 and 7/1 – all absolutely stormed home before selection number four won by a neck.
A pause for a brief second while I respond to an HR email about shoving traders down the stairs… I jest.
Kind of.
So to the selections. Things got off to a flying start when 5/1 shot Burrows Edge, trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Nico de Boinville, romped home by nine lengths to win the 14.40 at Kempton.
Ten minutes later, our lucky punter had bagged winner number two at Wetherby. West To The Bridge, who went off at 11/1, took advantage of 6/4 favourite Big Bad Bear pulling up to win the 14.50 by an absolute mile.
Not literally – West To The Bridge won by nine lengths – but you get the drift.
It was soon three winning selections in 20 minutes when Kimberlite Candy blitzed home to win the 15.00 at Warwick by 10 lengths leaving our perfect punter one selection away from a fortune.
A short wait followed to the 15.35 at Warwick where Silver Sheen, ridden by Robbie Power and trained by Jessica Harrington, completed the perfect fourfold after edging out Doc Penfro by a neck in the tightest of finishes.
No such thing as January blues for this punter – enjoy those winnings!
