Storm Wizard showed only modest form over hurdles, but he has proved to be a different proposition for Venetia Williams since being switched to fences. He unseated on his debut at Bangor but put that behind him to win a handicap at the same venue over this trip earlier this month. He shaped like the best horse here last time, but a combination of a late mistake and being briefly caught unaware by the winner’s forward move proved to be his undoing in a race he really should have won. He remains open to improvement and holds leading claims from a 6lb higher mark.
13:30 Warwick – Seeanythingyoulike @ 5/2
Seeanythingyoulike has largely acquitted himself well since making the switch to fences and this could be the day he finally gets off the mark. He was unfortunate to bump into an improved rival when runner-up at this venue back in September and was unlucky when fourth at Taunton last month after being repeatedly denied a run between four out and three out. That effort shows he is in good heart, however, and, while he is proving expensive to follow, he looks well handicapped. This drop back in trip won’t be a problem and he is taken to get off the mark.
14:35 Warwick – Colby @ 9/1
Colby was unsuited by the emphasis on speed when failing to make an impression over an inadequate trip at Chepstow on his penultimate start, but he wasted no time in getting back to form over a more suitable distance at Exeter last time, where he kept on well and only failed to get up by a short head. This further step up in trip promises to suit, a 3lb rise in the weights seems perfectly fair and, having raced just three times for Peter Bowen, he may well be capable of better still for this yard.
