Ruby Walsh: My 6 fancies for a nifty Sunday at Navan

Racing’s top pundit has had his say.

Navan – 11:30

The action kicks-off very early at Navan on Sunday and I reckon Blackbow can get the day off to a flyer. He ran a cracker at Naas when second after a long lay-off. We believe he’s improved fitness-wise and hopefully, he can get the day off to a great start.

Navan – 12:00

The second of the day is the Navan Novice Hurdle and it’s a small field, but it’s still a hot race. Abacadabras was too good for Latest Exhibition here at Navan three weeks ago and I reckon Andy Dufresne will be too good for him again on Sunday. It’s still a good race, but Andy Dufresne looks the class act.

Navan – 12:30

The 12:30 is the Tara Handicap Hurdle and Willie Mullins runs two in the form of Dolciano Dici and Sayo. Fences didn’t work for Sayo and Dolciano Dici probably wants real soft ground, so I reckon Drumacoo for Michael Hourigan and Rachael Blackmore could be the one to watch.

Navan – 13:00

The 13:00 is the second maiden hurdle on the card and Willie Mullins runs a mare called Et Dite. I believe she’s improved a good bit from Naas, but I was really taken by Dinny Lacey in his last start. He could be very hard to beat in this one.

Navan – 13:30

The offering at 13:30 is a rated novice hurdle and I’m going to give my brother-in-law Ross O’Sullivan’s horse An Froach Mor a mention. I think he could be well in for this race.

Navan – 15:10

In the lucky last my dad runs Dewcup, Patrick Mullins won on him at Punchestown and Patrick was really impressed with him. I really like him too, I just hope the ground isn’t too soft for him. That’s my only worry though, and he’s the one I’ll be cheering for.

Ruby’s Tips Summary:

11:30 Blackbow – 4/7
12:00 Andy Dufresne – 2/5
12:30 Drumacoo – 6/1
13:00 Dinny Lacey – 2/1
13:30 An Froach Mor – 11/4
15:10 Dewcup  – 11/4
