Urbanist made a good start to life at Dr Richard Newland’s yard with an encouraging second at Ffos Las at the end of last year. A late blunder put paid to his chances of going one better when sent chasing the following month, but he made amends in good style by winning at Exeter with a bit in hand shortly after. He was possibly turned out too quickly when pulled up at Fontwell seven days later but resumed his progress with a winning return after 10 months off at Market Rasen recently. He was strong in the betting on his latest start and won cosily after a fine round of jumping, so is taken to defy a 6lb rise and record back-to-back victories.
12:30 Taunton – Masters Legacy
Masters Legacy showed plenty when a staying-on second in a C&D novice on hurdling debut last month and should be capable of going one better with a reproduction of that effort. The form of his debut run is backed up by the clock (he recorded a timefigure of 121) and Phillip Hobbs’s nicely bred gelding – by Getaway, out of a daughter of Milan – looks difficult to oppose here. Hobbs’ yard is in top form at the minute and it is difficult to see Masters Legacy doing anything to hinder that.
12:50 Warwick – Kalooki
Kalkooli showed some fairly useful form when placed twice from four runs in bumpers last term before looking badly in need of the experience on his first attempt over hurdles here in November. He shaped well by the end, however, finishing with running left, and promises to be a different proposition this time around. That race has been working out well of late, with the runner-up a subsequent winner and, if Kalkooli has learnt his lessons from his debut run, a bold showing is expected from a horse open to significant improvement.
