Nigel Twiston-Davies has his team in great form and his Don’t Shout looks to be a real improver and just the sort you need in a race like this handicap hurdle at 12:45. He gets my nod over the David Pipe horse Duc De Beauchene.

I reckon it is horses for courses in the cross country at 13:15, so Urgent De Gregaine gets my selection in this one. He has to carry plenty of weight, but his running style will cope as he is ridden cold and creeps through the field. I feel Emmanuel Clayeux’s other horse Diesel DAllier is also an each-way shout in here as Felix De Giles believes he is a danger with only 10st 4lbs on his back.

There’s only four in this novice chase at 13:50, but they are all smart. Getaway Trump finished behind Al Dancer here last time, but he looked like he needed the run badly and Paul Nicholls said after he will improve. I am taking Getaway Trump to turn the tables on this ground with that good run under his belt.

Again we have a small, but select field in the 14:25. I love Defi Du Seuil and want him to win, I just worry that he lacks a recent run. The only thing that helps him is that he did go to Chepstow for a racecourse gallop. Politologue is a class act, but is in the same boat. Saint Calvados does have a fitness edge, but I am not deserting Defi Du Seuil here.

The Greatwood Handicap Hurdle at 15:00 is a cracker, with lots of horses coming from their novice season. Bennys Bridge won very nicely last time and will handle conditions, he did go up in the weights for his win here last time but is still capable off his mark. Quel Destin won and looked good on similar ground here last time, but has a welterweight in Harry Cobden to carry. Countister is one that I like at the weights. She is proven at the track and proven on the ground, she ran a belter in the County Hurdle and at the prices is my each-way selection.

In the last of the day, Pacify would be a worthwhile winner for the Duchess of Cornwall and has rattled up a sequence. Meanwhile, Ecco came from Germany and bolted up at Ascot and Wincanton, but Scardura really caught the eye at Taunton and the second has won since to. Scardura gets the nod in a tough heat to work out at 15:30.

Mick Fitzgerald’s Cheltenham tips summary:

12:45 Don’t Shout
13:15 Urgent De Gregaine
13:50 Getaway Trump
14:25 Defi Du Seuil
15:00 Countister
