Thankfully racing goes ahead at Cheltenham for the Gold Cup card today after Friday’s card was unfortunately called off.
Horses who love the mud look to be the order of the day for today’s meeting.
Here’s who we fancy!
The 12:05 at Cheltenham was originally due to be run on Friday, but with that card being lost to the weather it adds to an already excellent Saturday card. Dancing On My Own is our one to watch here and he looks worth a bet for Henry de Bromhead.
In the 13:50 we’re all keen on Lucinda Russell’s Big River. He was fourth at last year’s Cheltenham Festival and fifth in the Scottish Grand National, so he will be a familiar name to many. He is guaranteed to relish the conditions.
The feature race of the day at Cheltenham is the 14:25 and with 18 runners it could be wise to go to war with two picks. The two we were keen on are Venetia Williams’ Belami Des Pictons who will love this ground and although not making the track all that often, when he does he’s capable of putting in some massive performances.
Magic Saint is the other one to keep in mind. He was incredibly impressive at Wincanton in February, but his progress stalled after that race and he finished the season with this tame efforts. His trainer believes he had an issue and that it has been resolved now, so hopefully, we see an improved performance here.
Finally at Cheltenham, we are once again looking at a Venetia Williams runner in the 15:00, Eminent Poet seems to be one who will relish the difficult conditions and is well worth a punt in this one.
The feature race at Punchestown sees Willie Mullins’ Champion Hurdle favourite and potential superstar Klassical Dream return. Fan favourite Faugheen also makes his debut over fences at 12:50 on the same card and these races should provide a lot of clues for the rest of the season.
For those still clinging on to the flat season, we were quite taken by Caradoc in the feature race at Lingfield in the 14:45.
