12:50 SOUTHWELL – JIMMYJAMES

Jimmyjames has joined a yard adept at improving new recruits and is worth a second look here, especially if the market speaks in his favour. Previously trained by Philip Rothwell in Ireland, he remains relatively low-mileage in this sphere and doesn’t look overburdened by a mark in the mid-80s.

Grand Coureur offered hope for better during the summer and duly put it all together to score at Bangor in October. He showed similar form when runner-up next time and looks a big danger to the selection.

13:25 SOUTHWELL – VERY FIRST TIME

Very First Time showed definite signs of revival on his second start for this yard when third at Market Rasen in September and is one to look out for now back up in distance. He finished with plenty of running left over an inadequate trip that day and is potentially well-handicapped now, having won over fences from a much higher mark than this a couple of years ago.

14:00 SOUTHWELL – JEPECK

A fairly useful chaser, Jepeck was gambled on ahead of his debut in this sphere at Bangor on Wednesday and duly obliged, coming home unchallenged after quickening clear two out. He is turned out again quickly but sets the clear form standard, and a repeat of that performance will see him hard to beat.

14:35 SOUTHWELL – FELIX D’AUTRY

Felix d’Autry showed enough when running-on second in a Fontwell bumper in June to suggest he can open his account at the first time of asking over hurdles here. He was well supported that day – going off even money – and is clearly well regarded by connections.

15:10 SOUTHWELL – PELTWELL

Peltwell’s improved effort when runner-up in a big-field handicap at Chepstow last month sets a solid standard here and a repeat of that should see her go close again. She travelled as well as anything in the race on her latest appearance and is an unexposed sort whose lightly raced profile provides hope for better still.

15:45 SOUTHWELL – LESKINFERE

Leskinfere didn’t take to chasing last season under Oliver Greenall but made a positive start for Henry Oliver when second in a seller at Stratford recently. Leskinfere has since joined John Cornwall’s yard and looks to have been found a good opportunity to make a winning debut for his new stable, starting out in handicaps from a potentially lenient mark.
