Goodbye Someday had some quite decent bumper form to his name without winning and returned from a layoff to catch the eye in a maiden hurdle at Tipperary back at the beginning of the month. The booking here of Davy Russell is obviously a positive, and if he can improve from his debut run over hurdles, he should run very well here.
This is a typical competitive handicap hurdle for the grade, but one that appeals in Shantou Sisu who’s ridden by Danny Mullins. He threatened to win last season without quite getting the job done, but he is back off a break now he could well play a big role at the finish. Although he may prefer a little further, off a mark of 84 Shantou Sisu hard to ignore and he is our selection.
Freewheelin Dylan comes into this 17lbs lower than the mark he finished second off in a chase at the start of the month in Gowran Park. Although he’s mainly been running over the larger obstacles, some of his hurdle runs would give him a really good chance here even without taking his chase form into account. With only five starts over hurdles, he’s very unexposed in this sphere. It doesn’t look an overly strong contest today, so we can expect him to go very close.
Clonmel 13:30 – Goodbye Someday (7/2)
