Ruby Walsh: Black Scorpion can sting the Munster National field at Limerick

Ruby’s got you tips for Limerick and the Curragh on Sunday.

Ruby Walsh

Limerick – 13:45

It’s Munster National Day at Limerick on Sunday and Willie Mullins has two in the opening Novice HurdleFast Buck and Blazing Emily. I have to say Blazing Emily has a bit to improve to catch up with Fast Buck though. I’m hoping that Fast Buck will be too good for Darver Star here.

Limerick – 14:50

This is the Cailin Alainn Mares Hurdle and Listen Dear takes a massive step up in trip here, up to 2m 6f. She hasn’t been showing a whole pile lately, so Western Victory might just be too good for her in this race.

Limerick – 16:00

I’m very much hoping my Dad can have a win in this chase with Kildorrery. Dinons is the main danger, but the small field of challengers should really suit Kildorrery.

Limerick – 16:35

The Munster National is our feature race of the day and Snugsborough Benny has been given a fine in the Galway Plate by Liam Cusack, so he comes in fresh to this. Movewiththetimes was very disappointing in the Kerry National, while The Big Lense has been getting better for Gordon Elliott. I reckon the race will stay local though, and Eric McNamara’s two horses Internal Transfer and Black Scorpion are the main contenders here. If I was pushed, I’d go for Black Scorpion. I believe he’ll just be a bit fresher than Internal Transfer.

Limerick 17:10

The last race of the day is a beginners chase and it sees Willie’s last runner of the weekend Eclat Des Mottes that centre stage. This is going to be a small field, but Eclat Des Mottes has fitness and experience on his side. Hopefully, he can make it third time lucky over fences.

Curragh – 16:25

At the Curragh on Sunday the 16:45 is the Irish Cesarewitch. Willie Mullins runs four here – Saglawy, Nessun Dorma, Legal Spin and Royal Illusion. But, there’s way more to look at than just those four in the race – Davids Charm, Rock De Baune, Newcross, Dalton Highway, Lever Du Soleil and Dinard Rose will all have a shot here. If I’ve mentioned something you fancy, then don’t let me put you off. But, I’m in the Saglawy camp. I believe he’s improved since Listowel and I’ll row in behind him, even carrying top weight.

Tips Summary:

Limerick 13:45: Fast Buck
Limerick 14:50: Western Victory
Limerick 16:00: Kildorrery
Limerick 16:35: Black Scorpion
Limerick 17:10: Eclat Des Mottes
Curragh 16:25: Saglawy
