Matt Chapman: I’m backing Saroog to put me in a good mood on Friday

Four fancies ahead of the weekend. Get In!

Matt Chapman Cheltenham

It’s day 3 of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster as we count down to big one on Saturday at the home of the final British Classic.

The 14.10 is the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes over 7f. DI FEDE should be a very hard to keep out the frame, with the main worry being she doesn’t win often. That said she ran well at Goodwood last time and should be bang there.

There’s an extended 1m 6f handicap at 14.40 where SAROOG looks a good thing here. A winner at Ascot and Newmarket recently for Simon Crisford he is improving fast and William Buick is in the saddle.

The 15.10 at Doncaster is the Group 2 Doncaster Cup over 2m 2f. I keep taking the staying champ Stradivarius on and he keeps winning! However, I will do so again with the Mark Johnston-trained DEE EX BEE. He will relish going another two furlongs, and while on paper he should not win, the extra two furlongs should help and Stradivarius has to lose eventually!

We finish up the terrestrial tv coverage with the 5f Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes at 15.45. A’ALI didn’t get home over 6f in heavy ground in the Prix Morny in France, but he was classy before that defeat and can bounce back here.

He’s highly regarded by trainer Simon Crisford.
