Matt Chapman: I’ll be very Cross if this 7/2 shot doesn’t beat Stradivarius on Tuesday

He's won his last seven races but Matt's taking on Stradivarius with Cross Counter in the Goodwood Cup at 3.35pm.

A cracking King George at Ascot may be behind us, but Glorious Goodwood is ahead and I can’t wait for five beautiful days on the downs at ITV.

Let’s get straight to the action Tuesday, and the 1.50pm is a handicap over 1m 2f. BERINGER has great each-way claims for Alan King. He has classy course form and ran really well over this trip at Sandown last time. He’s up 1lb for that effort but this race will be run to suit and he has a good draw.

The 2.25pm at Goodwood is the Group 2 Vintage Stakes over 7f. PINATUBO was impressive in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot for Godolphin and showed some speed at Epsom the time before. He’s just getting better and better and should make it four-in-a-row for Charlie Appleby.

Next up at Goodwood is the Group 2 Lennox Stakes over 7f at 3.00pm. The James Tate stable is going great guns and HEY GAMAN might just get an easy lead in this contest. He’s a class act on his day and has gone close in Group 1 company. Definite each-way claims with the way the race will be run.

And finally at Goodwood, the 3.35pm is the Goodwood Cup over 2m. I think this is the day Stradivarius gets beat, and am all over CROSS COUNTER, another for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby. The more I watch the Ascot Gold Cup the more I think he should have won it, and this trip and track are perfect.

He could even try and make all. I’m really confident he will run huge.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
