Matt Chapman: Back a 10/1 Rascal to stir up trouble at Newmarket

You'd just know Matt would have to back Naughty Rascal, wouldn't you?

Matt Chapman Cheltenham

After a fantastic four-timer on the blog last Saturday it hasn’t been so easy at York during the week on ITV, so I’m hoping for a bonanza Saturday when seven races are shown on the main channel including the Group 1 Lockinge.

Let’s get straight to it, and the 1.50pm at Newbury is a Listed race over 6f. RED IMPRESSION looked in need of a step up in distance when running third at Chelmsford first time this season but this could still be ideal. Has a bit to find on ratings for Roger Charlton but an improver.

Next at Newbury is the 2.25pm, a Group 3 over 1m4f. CRYSTAL OCEAN was a huge price when scoring at Sandown last time and should be a total different league to this lot for Sir Michael Stoute who is building up the horse’s confidence with some good placing.

The 3.00pm at Newbury is a handicap over 1m2f. Hughie Morrison has his string in great form and KORCHO looked to really need the step up to this distance at Windsor last time. The handicapper might still not have him and he has decent each-way claims at biggish odds.

And finally at Newbury, the Group 1 Lockinge over 1m at 3.40pm. Far from a vintage renewal, and maybe it gives the chance for BEAT THE BANK to get a win on the board. He was well beaten in the event last year, but this time has had a prep and it was a good battling winning one at Sandown. An each-way bet.

Meanwhile, at Newmarket ITV show the 2.05pm, a Listed race over 1m2f. AL HILALEE was well backed late on for the 2000 Guineas but didn’t do much that day. However, I suspect Charlie Appleby’s charge is much better than that and I’ll give him another chance.

It’s a Listed event over 7f at Newmarket at 2.40pm. JASH should be the one here. He ran a fantastic race when chasing home Ten Sovereigns in the Middle Park, and another furlong should be no problem at all for the Simon Crisford-trained charge.

And finally at Newmarket a handicap over 6f at 3.15pm. I’ll have a few quid each-way on NAUGHTY RASCAL, who ran alright on the debut behind some of these but may well come on for that effort for Richard Hannon. Another place poke.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
