Matt Chapman: Technician can prove too smart for Ballydoyle’s brigade at Chester

The Chester Vase (15.35) is the opening-day feature of the fiesta and Mr MCYeeehaaa is all over Martyn Meade’s runner

No sooner are the Guineas done and dusted than the Derby trials get into full swing and the ITV cameras are at Chester for three days this week for some tasty action.

It all gets under way Wednesday with the Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes over 5f ay 13.50. People will say ELECTRIC LADYLAND can’t win from stall 10, but I think this horse is so speedy from the boxes she can overcome the draw. She’s looked very good at both Lingfield and Kempton so far for trainer Archie Watson.

Next up is the Listed Cheshire Oaks over nearly 1m4f at 14.25. FANNY LOGAN is bred to come into her own over this distance and is a cracking each-way bet for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori. She looked useful at Wetherby last time and can upset a few of these.

There’s a handicap over 5f at 15.00 where the draw will be crucial. SHE CAN BOOGIE comes from a Tom Dascombe stable in form and will be revved up at a track Michael Owen loves to see his stable do well at. A good draw and solid form figures at this course already. Each-way claims.

And finally the Group 3 Chester Vase over an extended 1m 4f at 15.35. TECHNICIAN is interesting here after a fine effort at Sandown in the Classic Trial. He might have won that with a clear run and has a decent chance for Martyn Meade’s yard against Ballydoyle’s trio led by Norway.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
