Matt Chapman: This unexposed speedster could have us holding our breath at HQ

Newmarket, Cheltenham and Matt Chapman. What more do you want to get over the mid-week hump...

Matt Chapman Cheltenham

Five races on ITV4 Wednesday with four from Newmarket’s Craven fixture and one form Cheltenham so plenty to get stuck into once again.

Let’s get straight to it, and the 1.50pm at Newmarket is a sprint handicap over 6f. BREATH OF AIR looks well treated here off a mark of 93. A Listed placing last season suggests he is better than a handicapper, for Charlie Hills and Ryan Moore.

Next at Newmarket is the 2.25pm, the famous Wood Ditton maiden over 1m. A guessing game, but UAE JEWEL is by Dubawi out of a Galileo mare and should shift a bit on breeding. Roger Varian’s horses are going well so will take a chance on him. The market will have all the clues.

The 3.00pm at Newmarket is the Group 3 Abernant over 6f. BRANDO is the defending champion and was second in the July Cup for Kevin Ryan. He’s a class act on his day and has every chance of going in again.

And finally at Newmarket the feature Classic Trial, the Group 3 Craven over 1m at 3.35pm. ROYAL MARINE was desperate in Meydan, but was a super tough Group 1 winner in France last season and I take him to bounce back for the impressive Saeed bin Suroor. He looks overpriced to me as the Godolphin trainers go head to head.

Meanwhile at Cheltenham, ITV4 show the 2.40pm, a Grade 2 limited handicap chase over an extended 2m 4f. MISTER WHITAKER ran a shocker at the Festival but he’s much better than that. He loves the track normally and is a sound jumper. Every chance for Mick Channon.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
