Boom! Just like that, one of our south Dublin punters won a staggering €85k off the back of a €2 each-way accumulator thanks to Al Boum Photo’s success in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The punter placed the modest stake on the five-timer on Tuesday morning at odds of 42,525/1 just before the festival kicked off. And the first leg of it clicked in the very first race when Klassical Dream (6/1) won the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
On the same day, Duc Des Genievres (13/2) obliged in the Arkle Trophy, giving Willie Mullins and Ireland a quickfire double, but more importantly, putting this punter two up on their bet.

On day two of the fortunate festival punter, who showed St Patrick-like devotion to Ireland by selecting a homegrown runner in every one of their picks, went with City Island (8/1) and Band of Outlaws (5/1), who both obliged in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle and Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle respectively.
But the Paddy Power customer had to endure waiting until Friday for the final leg of their bet to run.
And when Al Boum Photo (14/1) provided Willie Mullins with his first ever Cheltenham Gold Cup success, the Dubliner collected a whopping €85,249.97 for a total stake of just €4!
“We thought all of the snakes had been chased out of the country, but clearly this punter knew something we didn’t, and having remained patriotic in every single leg of his selections, we can’t really complain they plundered the second best-known Paddy in Ireland,” Rachael Kane, our spokesperson, said after the final winner came in.
