Matt Chapman: I’m backing Spinner to be a winner at Newbury on Friday

Four races on ITV Racing on Friday and mighty Matt Chapman is all over Sam Spinner in the 3pm at Newbury ...

There’s a bonus for racing fans on Friday with four races on ITV from Newbury as a nice hors d’oeuvre to the big Saturday dishes.
Let’s get straight to it, and the 1.50pm at Newbury is a Grade 2 novices’ chase over 2m 4f and it promises to be a cracker.

There’s not much between LA BAGUE AU ROI and Lostintranslation judged on when they met over fences at Newbury last time, but the former came out on top then and I expect her to do so again here. Warren Greatrex’s stable star has always been a huge horse, built like a chaser.

She will take some stopping in my opinion.

There’s some familiar names on display in the handicap chase at 2.25pm where there’s every chance Willoughby Court will simply outclass this lot. However, I tipped up KING’S ODYSSEY each-way when he was a good second at Aintree last time and he really does deserve a decent pot for Evan Williams.

Obviously the handicapper knows exactly what he is dealing with, but my selection is consistent and has every chance. This trip ideal.

The Long Distance Hurdle, is a Grade 2 contest over an extended 3m at 15.00. Wholestone did well when winning last time, but SAM SPINNER is a class act and he can make a winning return for Jedd O’Keefe and excellent owners Caron and Paul Chapman. Now they have to be classy!

I’m hoping Sam Spinner gets an aggressive ride from the front.

We sign off at Newbury at 3.35pm with a handicap hurdle over the same distance. BOBO MAC is an improving strong stayer and ran really well on the reappearance for Tom Symonds over the course and distance.

Annoyingly he’s gone up 4lb for that defeat, but he’s clearly fit and well and worth a few quid each-way.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
