We have some high-quality action taking place at Newmarket and York today to whet the appetite for what should be another cracking weekend of racing.

Here are our tips on the main races on both cards with the Fillies Mile at Newmarket being the feature race.

Newmarket
Fillies Mile – 15:35

Hermosa was impressive last time and has the potential to improve a lot for this step up in trip, and Pretty Pollyanna, who ran much better than initially thought last time when she may not have been 100 per cent. The mile poses a question mark though, there is plenty to suggest she could get it and her best form would entitle her to be clear fav here. Of the pair, Pretty Pollyanna probably represents the best value play in this contest.

Cornwallis Stakes – 13:50

There’s two we have our eye on here. Firstly, Sergei Prokofiev, who has been disappointing and would be favourite on his best form. However, with his trainer Aidan O’Brien in such good form, we reckon he could bounce back now that he’s dropped in trip. Well Done Fox arguably has the best form after his second to Soldiers Call at Doncaster.

Sharp Stakes – 14:25

Frosty, trained by Aidan O’Brien is a full-sister to Winter and bolted up on her only start at Dundalk. She is entitled to improve a lot. Hidden Message who recorded a very fast closing sectional at Yarmouth last time is our tip though and looks potentially top class.

Challenge Stakes – 15:00

Limato looked close to his best on his last two starts and the opposition here does not look overly strong. He gets his ideal conditions and bolted up in this race last year, so everything points towards him being the pick here. We’re also money back as a free bet on all losers if Limato wins.

Old Rowley Cup Handicap – 16:10

Rock Eagle was a very eye-catching fourth on his last start at Goodwood behind Communique, who has done plenty for the form since. Harry Bentley has chosen him over Breath Caught which would suggest this has been the target for Rock Eagle for a while. It’s hard to see him not being involved here.

York
Handicap – 14:40

Breanski ran much better than his finishing position suggests in a hot handicap at Ascot last time and shaped as if this mile will really suit him, particularly if they don’t get a lot of rain before race time.

Handicap – 15:50

Proschema was an excellent third in a hot renewal of the Melrose Stakes before showing up very well in the St Leger. Returning to handicap company, could go well in a race that lacks depth.
