Look, we’re not the cockiest fellas on the interweb – we leave that to our absurdly over-confident compatriots – but we were still feeling pretty chilled about things even as one of our customers put a terrific twosome of winners together on Tuesday evening in their €1 Lucky 15.
Horses are priced 66/1 for a reason, y’know.
But this E/W punt went against expectations, and saw the wily wagerer wind up with a win that took surely dragged his attention from the taxes and charges of the budget for the evening.
First up, he caught a Catterick charge from Sfumato in the 15.40 at 9/1, but then had to wait until a triumverate of ‘toon tearaways trampled the Newcastle evening track – and lined up a once-in-a-lifetime win thanks to one race’s freakish final result.
Consquences in the 19.15 lived up to his name – at least for us – when he triumphed over Justice Lady at a satisfying 16/1, and Burford Brown had us cacking it after winning the last race of the evening at 9/2.
But it was Glengarry who showed the requisite brass balls to seal the deal for our bettor despite being backed at a whopping price of 66/1 in the 12 horse field of the 20:15.
That meant the total return by the end of the evening’s races was an eye-watering €112,908.
Ouch. Not a bad evening’s work for this cute Kildare backer.
Now we’re just off to check down the back of the sofa for any stray coins…
