Our traders’ top three tips on a super Saturday of racing

Our racing boffins know the sport inside and out, so we asked them for some tips on an action-packed Saturday in the racing world…

One of the best days racing of the year takes place this afternoon with the final classic of the year the St Leger taking place at Doncaster and then you have the first day of the Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown.

Here’s who we’re tipping for a fabulous day of action on both sides of the Irish Sea.

The St Leger takes place at 15:35 and we’ll admit it, we like the chances of the filly Lah Ti Dar. She met with a setback earlier in the season, but was massively impressive the last day when winning at York on her comeback.

She just looks a great bet to us!

The highlight of Irish Champions Weekend is the Irish Champion Stakes at 18:35, where Roaring Lion is a roaring favourite.

It is very hard to knock his form and he put in a career best performance at York the last day when winning, but we feel he may not be as far ahead of the opposition as the betting would suggest.

The one we fancy is Saxon Warrior, on the face of it he has a lot to find from his run behind Roaring Lion the last day, but Aidan O’Brien’s horses are in much better form now than at York and no doubt the maestro has had this race in mind for Saxon Warrior from a while back.

At 17:25 we get to see one of the stars of the flat season in Alpha Centauri in the Matron Stakes, you won’t get rich backing her at 3/10 – but you will get a lot of enjoyment from watching her strut her stuff on home soil.

It is effectively a question of “how far?” for Alpha Centauri and we have her priced at 15/8 to win by 5l or more. After her dominance in the 1m division this season, it’s hard to turn up your nose at that one.

As a bonus and because we are sound fellows here’s a few others we like at Leopardstown: Foxtrot Liv in the 15:20, Sharjah in the 15:50, Rostropovich in the 16:55 Paddy’s Rewards Club Stakes and finally Danielsflyer in the 19:10.
