Ruby Walsh: My view on Killarney’s races this evening

Ruby gives us the lowdown on the runners and riders for Wednesday evening's card at Killarney, where Wicklow Brave heads a competitive field...

Wicklow Brave is moving back to the flat, and this is a really good opportunity for him. His last few runs on the flat have been a bit lacklustre but they’ve been much better races than this, and this looks like an ideal opportunity for him to get his head back in front.

He didn’t hurdle quick enough in Tipperary when he ran there, his jumping let him down. Back on the level it should be a help to him.

There’s a bit of a Galway Hurdle trial feel to this race Ivanovich Gorbatov, Peregrine Run, and Le Vagabond in it. it’ll be a good pointer for the Galway Plate and Hurdle, as Peregrine Run could be headed for the Plate.

Before that this evening, Legal Spin seems to be in really good order. He should’ve improved for this run, hopefully he’ll handle the fast ground, and he’s in really good form.

Townshend hasn’t run on the flat for us before. His last one was over fences, but that was stepping up in trip. He’s running off a very reasonable mark this evening in my view. Hopefully he’s quick enough here. Rachael Blackmore rides him this evening, and she’s been riding winners hand-over-fist, so hopefully that continues this evening.

In the handicap hurdle we have Bargy Lady. She ran well in Kilbeggan before, I’d hope the move up in trip will really suit her. She was a bit keen in first couple of runs but she seems to be settling down a bit now. She’s on a mark she’s more than capable of winning off, and hopefully she’ll go well tonight in a small but competitive field.

In the bumper, we have Jonnigraig with Jody Townend. He’s no star but Jody won a bumper for us last week on Supreme Trick, so maybe she can go close tonight. Jody’s a talented little rider and she’s well worth her 7lb claim.
