Ruby: Alpha Centauri can dominate day four at Royal Ascot

Ruby Walsh runs through Friday's festival card, with Jessica Harrington's charge standing out in a high-class trio at the front of the Coronation Stakes...

14:30 – Albany Stakes

Aidan O’Brien is well represented, but I’m a bit surprised that Fairlyland and Just Wonderful are taking each other on here. It’ll be hard to split them. I know Martin Palussiere with the French horse No More Regrets has been well touted, and Jessica Harrington’s team are very bullish about Chicas Amigas. I couldn’t split the O’Brien pair, so, for value, I’d look at the Harrington runner here at 16/1.

15:05 – King Edward VII Stakes

Ryan Moore is on Delano Roosevelt, Seamie Heffernan rides Giuseppe Garibaldi, there’s not much between them all in this. It’s a Group 2, Old Persian will have a chance here too, but Wells Farhh Go for Tim Easterby could be each-way value in a nine runner race.

15:40 – Commonwealth Stakes

There doesn’t look to be a Caravaggio-level horse in this year’s renewal. Sioux Nation looks to be the best of Aidan’s runners, Invincible Army is James Tate’s entry, Card Sharp is there for Mark Johnston. Todd Pletcher has Gidu in there as well coming from America, it’s a big field, but there’s no stand out amongst them. If I had to pick, Invincible Army offers each-way value.

16:20 – Coronation Stakes

This is the race of the week for me. Alpha Centauri, Billesdon Brook and Clemmie are three really good fillies. It was well touted before the Irish Guineas that Clemmie would need the run, and by all accounts she’s improved since then. She was a very good two-year-old last year too. Alpha Centauri was very impressive in the Curragh though, and Billesdon Brook is good too. Having to pick, Alpha Centauri would get the nod for me. She did very well to get up in the Guineas, so she’d be my best bet for the day.

17:00 – Sandringham Stakes

You may as well be looking into a fish bowl tryng to pick in this one. If you were taking a couple against the field, Dark Rose Angel from Simon Crisford with Silvestre de Souza on board would be one, and I love Jamie Spencer on the mile track here, and he rides Agrotera in this. With Paddy Power paying the first six places in this, he doesn’t ride many winners, but he geta a lot of places, so Agrotera looks each-way value to me at 11/1.

17:35 – Duke of Edinburgh Stakes

You wouldn’t usually be looking at a Richard Hannon’s horse over a mile-and-a-half, but Nayel is an improving sort. Fighting Fire from Mark Johnston has a 4lb penalty, Clear Skies from Aidan O’Brien is in there too, it’s not very often you’d see Aidan involved in a handicap like this. He could be worth a look.
