Ruby Walsh: My tips for Royal Ascot’s day two card

The second day of the Ascot regal jamboree is here and Ruby Walsh has had a looks over the day's races for you to make the right call with your bets...

14:30 – Queen Mary

Obviously Chelsea Cloisters will be top of many people’s lists, Wesley ward trained and Frankie Dettori in tremendous form here on Tuesday, that’s an obvious starting point, but if I was to go for something else I’d look at Forever in Dreams from Matthieu Palussiere with jockey Antoine Hamelin.

They won the Albany last year, this filly’s been very impressive on her two runs in France, so if I was going for one other than the favourite I’d go for her at 14/1.

15:05 – Queen’s Vase

Aidan O’Brien has three here, with Ryan Moore on Kew Gardens, along with Nelson and Southern France, and there’s Stream of Stars from John Gosden with Frankie Dettori on board, who’d be very much of interest too.

Ballydoyle had an ordinary day yesterday by their standards, but that’s not going to last, they’re going have winners, and maybe Kew Gardens will get them going, but I like Stream of Stars as well at 7/2.

15:40 – Duke of Cambridge

Hydrangea has a Group 1 penalty, but she’s the only horse in the field capable of winning that standard of race. even with the penalty, it’s only a 5lbs. She’s by far the best horse in the race. I couldn’t see anything else in the race winning a Group 1.

16:20 – Prince of Wales

John Gosden has his sights set on Cracksman lasting the whole season, a bit like Willie Mullins, building them up bit-by-bit as they go along. He’ll be a better horse today than he was in the Coronation Cup. Too much is being read into that run, even though he still won. At 4/7 or around there, that’s a massive price for him as I can’t see a danger in the race for him.

I’d pair up Hydrangea with Cracksman for a double at around 7/2, hat’s where the value lies today.

17:00 – Royal Hunt

I’d be purely guessing in this, even with six places paying out on the each-way. I’m not that clued up on the form in this one, but if I was going for something it’d be Jamie Spencer on the straight mile track, so Raising Sand at 14/1 each-way is probably what I’d go for here.

17:35 – Jersey Stakes

There are some good winners in the field for this, Emaraaty, Could It Be Love, Expert Eye, it’s a bigger field as well. Wesley Ward has Hemp Hemp Hurray here too, but I think I’d have to go for Emaraaty at 11/2 if pushed to pick.
