Wild Illusion can make fantasy a reality in the Epsom Oaks

Oaks day brings with it an excellent card from Epsom, and our traders have scutinised the day's racing to bring you their favourite bets...

16:30 – Epsom Oaks

This is a difficult race to price with Aidan O’Brien having 5 of the 9 runners and some confusing jockey bookings making our lives more difficult. The two we liked against the field were Bye Bye Baby and Forever Together, while we’re looking to take on the likes of Give and Take, I Can Fly and Ejtyah at current prices. We’re currently fairly neutral on Wild Illusion at 9/4 after a few disagreements on our price. She looks to hold very solid claims on form and could be hard to beat if the O’Brien battalion aren’t able to bully her out of it.

14:00 – Epsom Cond Stakes

At current prices, we quite like True Belief at 3/1. He gets weight off most of these and with natural improvement expected after a promising debut he looks likely to go very close.

14:35 – Epsom Mile Handicap

Not a great race on paper. The one we were most keen on is Medburn Dream who could be worth backing at 5/1. He’s coming off a good win in a decent race at Windsor, likes the track and handles the ground well so looks sure to be involved.

15:10 – Epsom Coronation Cup

Cracksman should just win here, but the 2/7 we have him at is not a price to be punting at. We think Hawkbill will beat Idaho so he could be a play in the Betting W/O market if any bigger than 11/8 or so.

15:45 – Epsom Handicap

We are very strong on the favourite Ajman King here, who rates an excellent bet. We can’t find any negatives with him after an ultra impressive win at the track last time and he has been let off lightly in only getting 5lbs for that. He’s fine on the ground and it’s hard to find many dangers in the field, with plenty inconvenienced by the ground and others looking poorly handicapped. Of the rest, Not So Sleepy won this last year off the same mark so could rate as a decent each way bet at 8/1 or figure in a forecast.

17:15 – Epsom Listed Stakes

We’re against the fav Kings Shield here, priced 7/4 currently, with scope to go bigger. Despite him being well clear on ratings we’re not sure this is ideal for him with the ground the way it is, while any more rain would be a big negative. Against him we like Aurum and Tadbir. At the prices, Tadbir is probably the bet, with 13/2 looking very fair.

17:50 – Epsom Handicap

This is a very competitive race. We like Juanito Chico, who has some very good course form to his name, and Belle Meade, at a big 16/1, who could be better than her mark of 85, while her trainer is no stranger to having winners in handicaps at the track.
