The former Hennessy Gold Cup winner gives his thoughts on where the money should be going on Saturday at Newbury...

If the flat action at Donny is not to your liking, Newbury on Saturday provides plenty of high-quality jumping action.

Amore Alato is having its first run for the Skeltons, and a production of his old form could see him really competitive in this. Especially when you add in the fact he has been dropped to a very nice handicap mark.

The danger is going to be Thomas Patrick. Back down in trip from the marathon he contended at Exeter, this will be much better for him with the champion jockey an eye-catching booking.

Haulani is the selection here. Being in receipt of a stone from the favourite Oistrakh Le Noir will give this one the edge.

Roksana has been really impressive in her last two starts, and this race will have been on the horizon for some time. So I take this daughter of Dubai Destination to win here.

Sunshade was a little disappointing last time at Taunton but is better than she showed there – she’s the each-way pick in a race with plenty of value.

Sametegal is favourite here and actually won this race two years ago off a higher mark than he races off here. He is a strong traveller who is not an out-and-out stayer. This 2m4f trip is perfect for him.

Seeyouatmidnight has not run for a year but has had a wind op in the interim. He is a very classy animal and even if the trip is shorter than where he’s best, he can’t be ignored in here. He is worth a wager at a decent price each-way.

Pacific De Baune is already a course winner and is going to be tough to beat in here.

Brigade Of Guards will be popular, as will Zens Joy for Nicky Henderson at his local track. But I am going to take a punt on a each-way outsider.

Wings Of Darkness represents Paul Webber, who has a good record with his bumper horses. This lad is by Winged Love, a sire that I like, and related to a few good horses. He could just be a lively one at a good price.

Philip Hobbs is hoping he can have a real good run to end his season, and his Imperial Presence, the winner of this race last year off a mark only a pound higher, could be the answer here.
