Trials and treble-ations – a trio from Sunday’s PP meeting at Naas

Ahead of the Paddy Power Cheltenham Trials at Naas, our traders gave us a tasty treble...

Sunday’s a big day at Naas. The 2018 Cheltenham Festival is drawing ever closer and eager trainers are set to use the Paddy Power Trials day at the Kildare racecourse as one of the last opportunities to get a run into their Festival contenders before they make their way to Gloucestershire.

Ahead of the action, our traders took a look at the cards and gave us a nice little treble to whet the appetite…

Naas 2:40  – Last Encounter

This horse looks particularly well-treated off a mark of 118 compared to his hurdles form.

He has a lovely raving weight and I wouldn’t be surprised if this race was the plan for some time by his shrewd trainer Mags Mullins.

Going this way around is also likely to suit more, having jumped slightly left on his last chase starts. He looks a solid selection.

Naas 3:10 – Cartwright

This looks quite a good novice hurdle but Cartwright, who stepped up markedly from his hurdling debut to win last time, is taken to improve again to fend off his seven rivals.

He has a lofty rating on the flat and having shown a good aptitude to hurdling last time he should be bang there at the finish here.

Naas 4:15 – Golden Jewel

Comes into this having not run since Leopardstown at Christmas in a similarly competitive race.

He stumbled on landing at the second-last so would’ve finished closer but for that. His trainer’s horses are running well at present and again with a low weight here he should at least finish in the frame off what looks a nice mark.
