Ruby Walsh: This 12/1 shot can get you hoping and dreaming at Gowran Park

The top jock is back to leap into a huge day at the Kilkenny racecourse…

Thyestes Handicap Chase

That’s the thing with this handicap chase, it’s usually won by a very good horse. Numbersixvalverde and Hedgehunter won it in the past, while Djakadam was second in the Gold Cup after he won it. Dun Doire went on to victory at Cheltenham after he succeeded here in Gowran Park too.

The roll of winners of the Thyestes is just incredible.

Pleasant Company and Isleofhopendreams are the main hopes of Willie Mulllins in today’s running at 3pm. If you’re looking more closely at it, Isleofhopendreams has the best weight for the ground and the trip. However, he does lack a lot of experience.

Pleasant Company is by presenting and it’s hard to know will he handle the ground if it’s really heavy, but he did in the Bobbyjo Chase – so maybe he will. They’re both in good order though, but it’s a competitive race. Ucello Conti has been placed in a few races recently and you’d have to respect him.

Isleofhopendreams, because of his weight, could be the value play at 12/1 here though.

Galmoy Hurdle

It’s getting to the stage of the season where Willie will be running one or more in these types of races. I’d imagine we’d be double represented, even triple represented in some of the races at Leopardstown.

As for the Galmoy Hurdle at 1.50pm, Lets Dance is in good order and Augusta Kate seems to be getting better with each run. She’s hasn’t quite scaled the heights she did last year yet, but she’s starting to come to hand.

These two fillies both stay well and have good weights on their backs heading into this one.

Elsewhere, Scarpeta was third in Navan in a Maiden Hurdle and looks to have improved.

The horse probably would like the trip to be a bit longer, but Gowran Park on Thyestes day in these conditions takes a lot of getting – the ground could be very deep. He’s still one to look out for in the Maiden Hurdle at 12.50pm though.
