Jason Weaver: Six picks to keep you in the mix at Newcastle & Dundalk on Friday

The Shark is back with some tips for the top...

18:45 Newcastle

Choice Encounter produced a very good change of gear to win at Kempton comfortably, but in this lineup the likely favourite Nomorecalls will push on and try to make all the running, and at Newcastle that is no easy task. He can set it up for the selection to pounce late and fast.

19:45 Newcastle

Pudding Chare is still a maiden but does have some fair form in the book already. Switching back across from the fibres is a positive move and up to seven furlongs is just the ticket. The young jockey on top is excellent value for his seven-pound allowance and Pudding has been found a soft opportunity.

20:15 Newcastle

Dandy Bird has not stood much racing for a four-year-old and this filly looks an unexposed runner over seven furlongs. So far she has been held up over 6f on four occasions and the race has been done and dusted before she was able to produce a telling performance. Most of these have had plenty of chances and Dandy Bird has a big ticket to improve.

18:30 Dundalk

Adieux deserved to get her head in front last time in a fairly competitive handicap around here over course and distance. She was drawn very wide on that occasion and has been done no favours here with stall nine. She has a good bit of back class to say that she is still on a reasonable mark and it will take a good one to stop her going back to back at this level.

19:30 Dundalk

Rummaging is likely to fly under the radar pricewise for this contest as he has been deserted by the multiple champion Pat Smullen. However he may just be coming to the boil at present, having returned from a four-month layoff with a never nearer run back in November. Last time out he was posted very wide and got going all too late, but on this occasion he is well drawn and will just need a little bit of luck in the straight: he looks a big each-way player.

20:30 Dundalk

Brave Display was a sharp winner over course and distance to start but he wasn’t able to back that up next time as the drop down to the minimum just found him out. He can make life hard for his jockey as he races lazily but he’s reunited with the young rider who got the best out of him in early December and the combination can get going in the lucky last at Fundalk.
