13:50 Newbury Handicap Hurdle
I am tempted to go with the horses that are proven on the ground here. Dynamite Dollars has some good form on the soft, as does Diable de Sivola. Nicky Henderson can do no wrong at the moment, and his Brave Eagle will be popular – he gets the nod over each-way selection Dynamite Dollars.
14:25 Newbury Handicap Chase
A number of horses declared here may also run elsewhere if the weather is kind. I thought Potters Legend ran a lot better than where he ended up in the Ladbrokes Trophy last time.
The favourite DaKlondike is beatable and I would rather take a punt on a value bet in this one. Knockanrawley is another that has to have a chance here, and is proven in the mud.
15:00 Newbury Novices Hurdle
The feature of the day is the Challow Novices Hurdle, and it’s safe to say there’s no Denman or Large Action in here.
Dame Rose looked a mare to follow when winning at the track last time, beating a smart mare in the process. She is proven on the ground; Poetic Rhythm is the main danger.
15:35 Newbury Novices Handicap
Rocklander is favourite for the last and is a solid choice. I would love to see Philip Hobbs amongst the winners and his Duke Des Champs would be a lot shorter if he was banging in the winners.
14:10 Haydock Handicap Chase
This is going to be a slog and proven stamina is a must. Brian Hughes is the king of the northern circuit and he was booked for West Of The Edge early. That always sends a warning of a fancied one to me, and I take this lad to win a decent price – currently 7/1. He looked good when winning over a similar trip this time last year at Carlisle.
14:45 Haydock Handicap Chase
I love a Sue Smith or Donald Mccain horse at Haydock, and they are both well represented here. Wolf Sword gets the nod to give the trainers assistant (husband Harvey) a belated birthday present. Swing Hard could run well for the team too.
