Jason Weaver: Six picks for the Friday night lights at Chelmsford and Dundalk

Jason weaves a snare with his selections from Essex and the Irish Essex...

Chelmsford 18:15

Blue Candy had shown next to nothing on two tries prior to running an excellent second around this ball park at Chelmsford. On the face of it, being beaten four-and-a-half lengths by Music Society may not look that good, however that particular winner is very highly rated.

Blue Candy steps into handicap company for the first time with a mark of 75 – that surely underestimates how good he is.

Chelmsford 19:45

Bomad is a little fella who seems a bit of a reluctant hero. They put the visor on last time and he got going late on over the minimum five furlongs to really good effect. He can also be a little sluggish from the gates, however stepping up a furlong will definitely suit and he’s not got a million miles on the clock.

Derek Shaw is a decent handler, and he will be underestimated as far as the prices are concerned. He rates the value in the line up.

Chelmsford 21:15

Nevalyashka, the daughter of derby-winner Sir Percy, looks to have slotted into this handicap very nicely on a mark of 67.

She was eye-catching last time at Wolverhampton over a slightly shorter distance. This trip on a galloping track like Chelmsford is going to suit her and the young lad takes off a valuable 7lbs in a race that’s not going to take a huge amount of winning.

Dundalk 19:30

Complicit hasn’t been done any favours with being drawn out in the car park. However the selection ran an absolute cracker to be beaten in a head-bobbing finish last time over the course and distance at Fundalk.

I’m not even slightly bothered that the handicapper has nudged him back up 3lbs in the handicap. When you look back through his form, he is still very well handicapped and is going to take a bit of beating.

Dundalk 20:30

Carrigeen Prince drops back down in grade tonight, which may be the deciding factor. Two of his three lifetime wins have been here, both times over the mile. However he looks as if the extended mile and a quarter is within his range.

Well drawn down towards the fence, he should get a lovely run on the inside from that berth. This pilot also goes particularly well.

Dundalk 21:00

Asian Wing is not a bad performer around here when on song, and the old boy has slipped to a very attractive mark. His last effort shows us that the spark is still there and his shrewd trainer has decided to take off the whopping 10lb apprentice claim. The draw is a little bit awkward, being posted wide, however if he’s able to find a mid-division slot he will be hitting the line very strongly late on in the lucky last.
