It’s the final day of the three-day Dante meeting so let’s go out with a bang.
We start off with the 5f Listed Stakes at 2.20pm where Michael Bell’s Main Desire looks to follow up a good win at Nottingham. She was well backed then and didn’t leave the cash behind.
Even though that was on much quicker ground, the slower ground here shouldn’t worry this daughter of High Chaparral. She’s upped in class to Listed company, but there’s already talk of a tilt at the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot next month. She’ll need to justify those lofty ambitions by going very close here.
Jockey Daniel Tudhope is on top and was in the winner’s enclosure at York earlier in the week.
The 1m Stakes at 2.55pm sees Ralph Beckett’s filly Sibilance brings a 100 per cent record of two from two on the all weather into the contest. There’s three others trying to protect unbeaten runs too and if this filly was trained by John Gosden or Roger Charlton she’d be much tighter in the market.
Being out of a Linamix mare – the ground should hold no fears for her.
Big improver
We kick on with the feature race, the Yorkshire Cup at 3.30pm and I’m going against the market in this. Hughie Morrison’s Marmelo could be anything. He’s a lightly-raced stayer with so much scope that he could prove to be top class in time.
Only out of the places once in seven races, on his debut run behind the then Derby fancy Ulysses, he has made massive strides in a short time and lowered the track record last time when winning over 1m 7f at Chantilly in a Group 3 contest.
