Built up a pretty good profile last year rounding off with a very solid success at Chelmsford in a half decent maiden. Patrick O’Donnell takes off a handy 5lbs and is well drawn in stall 2, close to the fence and should get a perfect run round from there.
Hammer Gun will be all the rage looking for the five timer, but he carries the penalty today. That might just slow him down and he’s drawn very wide.
You couldn’t walk along Newmarket High Street without somebody telling you that Desert Rain is the good thing on the card tonight. She has a very smart pedigree and her trainer is in flying form. Yes she is going to be a short price but has supposedly been catching pigeons on the gallops.
Looks to be the stable’s first string on jockey bookings and I’m surprised she’s not a good bit shorter in the market. She managed to win her final start on three tries last year and would of gone close on debut but for a very slow start.
The trainer is in hot form and she’s well drawn. Joint fav Family Fortunes was a 25 to 1 outsider when winning on debut and will go off a short price tonight. To me, that’s the quickest way to the poor house and our selection can give Hyperfocus plenty to think about.
This gelding now finds himself on an official rating of 61 having been rated as high as 73 at one stage. He has a few lengths to find with the favourite on recent form but stepping up to two miles will be bang in our favour. Gary Halpin takes off a very valuable 3lbs off.
Expect Park Row to be played late and is an each-way price to give us a bit of wriggle room too.
Took 14 tries to finally get her head in front and now has been raised 6lbs for that win to an official rating of 64. When trainer manages to get them to deliver they often follow up on their next attempt. As ever, he wisely takes off the 5lb claim to negate the rise in the handicap.
All she needs is a strong pace to run at. That looks guaranteed and she can go back-to-back at Fundalk in the space of a week.
He’s gone missing the last couple of starts having previously been pretty consistent. We have a jockey change which should enable her to run a much better race over the 1m 2f even allowing for the fact that she is drawn deep install number 11.
But that’s factored into the price as she looks like going off at double digits. Both of her wins have come on the all-weather and the last was under tonight’s pilot, Donncha O’Brien. We have all of the regular Dundalk performers in the line-up and she’s better than her price suggests.
