Let’s get a winner on the board after a barren spell last week. An easy course and distance win last week for Safe Voyage was no fluke as trainer John Quinn is starting to hit a hot patch. Safe Voyage is unpenalised for his apprentice race win and although he reappears in this tougher race fairly quickly, it won’t be a problem as he’s a low mileage improver.
Lozah has taken really well to the newest All-Weather track having her last five runs here. All of them have been solid bar last time when it all went wrong at the gates but we’ll forgive her that. Her sole win came under tonight’s pilot Jack Garritty four runs back & she is only 7lbs higher than that day. On the weights she’s 3lb better off with Leonard Thomas for three parts of a length, and that should swing it in our favour.
Red Avenger has done us three favours at 16/1 and 9/2 twice in the last couple of months so we are staying with him to rack up the four-timer tonight! He was drawn in the car park last time (stall 10) and overcame that but this time he draws the paint in stall one. Multiple champ Pat Smullen gets the call to ride and trainer Damian English can keep the euros at home by fending off the English raider Supasta!
Arguably comes in with the best recent form having gone down by just a short head in a bobbing finish here to Full Shilling two weeks ago. No Way Jack has been nudged up 3lbs for that, but it shouldn’t slow him down too much and we have a great rider on our side in Wayne Lordan. He will need to be at his best as the only negative is the wide birth in stall 14, but I always say ‘a good jockey can overcome a bad draw.’
Serefeli is very lightly raced on the All-Weather here at Fundalk, having only start number three tonight. His first try was OK (finishing fourth, beaten a length) and then last time he was only beaten a length and a half behind Keukenhof. Over the same trip again he looks poised for a big effort. Pat Smullen on board is a bonus you can’t ignore. Serefeli looks good having not won since his racecourse debut at Gowran which saw him rated 84 – now he’s down at 59.
