Acclaim – Newmarket 2.40pm
Cougar Mountain won the Joel Stakes at this level last time but is not the most consistent and is probably better over a mile than over seven furlongs. Three-year-olds have won five of the last nine runnings of this race and the in-form Acclaim could be the strongest contender from his generation after he improved again to win a listed race with some authority at Newbury last time. With the likes of Gifted Master and First Selection in the field the race could be nicely set up for a finisher, and he is expected to be delivering a strong, late challenge under Frankie Dettori.
Spatial – Newmarket 3.10pm
The O’Brien pair of Hydrangea and Rhododendron are closely matched on their second and third in the Moyglare last time and set the standard in this race on Timeform ratings based on that. However, that pair perhaps lack the scope for improvement that Spatial has, after she made a strong impression when readily winning a deep-looking maiden at Newmarket last time. The three horses in the frame behind her (including the re-opposing Sobetsu) have all won since, and she is expected to take the step up to Group 1 company and a mile in her stride here.
