Timeform Friday preview: John Gosden’s filly is dropped in class and looks a major player at HQ

Ignore Nathra's last run as she's rested and raring to go as part of a 5/1 Friday double from racing's boffins

Fair Eva – Newmarket 15:05

Roger Charlton’s filly Fair Eva was a little disappointing in the Lowther Stakes last time when sent off at 11/4-on fav (third behind another of Frankel’s offspring in Queen Kindly), lacking the finishing kick that she displayed when winning the 6f Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes by four lengths on her second start (a performance that was also impressive on the clock).

There is still plenty of time for her to confirm the vast promise of her first two outings and she is well clear of this field on Timeform ratings and is expected to get back to winning ways.

Nathra – 15:40 Newmarket

The likes of Gifted Master and Amazing Maria arrive here with something to prove after some below-par recent efforts, while Custom Cut (who won this in 2014) is without a win for over a year.

This could be between the three-year-old pair of Forge and Nathra. The latter was fifth in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in early-May and was even better when second behind Arc hopeful La Cressonniere in the French equivalent just two weeks later.

She was below form when last seen in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, but has been given a break since by trainer John Gosden and looks a major player now dropped back into Group 3 company.
