Jason Weaver: Expect this 7/2 shot to arrive late & fast on day one at Newmarket

The Weaver Shark marks your card ahead of the three-day festival at HQ

Jason Weaver

Kieren Fallon called it a day this week and the Assasin was a machine when he was in his hey-day and got horses to run for him like no other jockey riding at the time. There were low points, but Fallon was always happiest on the racetrack and it showed. His self belief and sheer raw talent meant that anything was possible whenever he was riding.

Hopefully, he can find the same sort of contentment now away from the racecourse as he did on it and he graced Newmarket’s July meaning many times in his career.

Speaking of which ….

Prize Money, Newmarket, 2:10pm

Godolphin’s Prize Money looks a stand-out after finishing second to Hawkbill at Royal Ascot winning at Sandown who franked the form by winning the Eclipse on Saturday. He’s only having his fourth start this season and has yet to finish out of the first two places. The step up in trip from 1m 2f to 1m 5f should suit and he can get our July meeting off to a flyer.

Mehmas, Newmarket, 2:40pm

Richard Hannon’s colt has done little wrong so far, winning his first two starts before bumping into a Coolmore monster Caravaggio on his fourth start in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes.

Frankie Dettori’s mount  turns out again 23 days after that run but so does main danger Ardad who won the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at the same meeting.

The Grey Gatsby, Newmarket, 3:15pm

He’s locked horns with a few stars along the way and Kevin Ryan’s runner doesn’t always get the respect his form deserves. ,His reappearance in The Prince Of Wales Stake at the Royal meeting was a cracker as the soft ground wouldn’t have suited him. He’s so much better on fast ground so get ready for a Jamie Spencer-special and expect him to arrive late and fast and put it up to the likely favourite, Exosphere.

Taneen, Newmarket, 3:45pm

Roger Varian’s runner bolted up at Leicester at the end of May but wasn’t missed by the handicapper who gave him a 12lb hike in the ratings for that effort.

Side-stepped Royal Ascot to target this big pot before I’d imagine he’ll be upped in grade rfom handicap company. I expect we’ll see him in Group company soon so I’m going to take advantage now.
