Ruby Walsh: Outlander has the class to deliver at Fairyhouse on Sunday if he’s over his Cheltenham fall

Ruby Walsh

The Fairyhouse Festival kicks off on Sunday and Ruby Walsh marks your card

2pm  Maiden Hurdle, 2m,

I’m starting with Beau Mome and he simply must do better over hurdles. He’s been jumping so poorly the last few races and needs to step it up a notch if he wants to take this. AJ Martin has Tayto Park and he’s probably the one to beat.

3.05pm Grade 1 Mares Novice Hurdle 2, 4f

I’m on one of Willie Mullins’ four horses in this race in the debutante Asthuria. She’s been going really well in training and this race will help us a lot. If she wins it we can maybe look towards Punchestown, if not then we’ll just reinforce her novice status for next season. Myska will need to try and find her form from the first half of the season to have a chance. Monbeg Rose and Miss Me Now will both be hopeful but will both need to step up a level

3.40pm Grade 2 Novice Hurdle

Byran Cooper rides Nambour for Gigginstown in this, but he was a good bit off Acapella Bourgeois in Thurles last time out so needs to reverse the form there.

I’m on the other Gigginstown runner Fire in Soul who bolted up to win at Clonmel which surprised everyone.

It proves that he can pull it out of the bag if he needs to. Paul Townend rides Haymount but even though he won at Gowran Park on his last outing, I’d be surprised if he was able to repeat that again now.

4.15pm Grade 1 Ryanair Gold Cup 2m 4f

Outlander is the best of Willie Mullins’ chances on today’s card and Bryan Cooper rides him.

Even though he fell in the JLT Novice’s Chase at Cheltenham, he was travelling well despite losing ground at the start.

We know what he can do. I expect him to show it today.

I ride McKinley who is good over hurdles but we haven’t really seen that over fences so far this season. Kylemore Lough is probably the one to beat, but don’t be surprised if Outlander does it.

4.50pm Novice H’cap S’Chase 2m 1f

I ride Guitar Pete for Sandra Hughes. He’s very experienced and will be happy with the ground at Fairyhouse.

I’m not sure if he’s very well handicapped or anything but I’m looking forward to the ride.

What do you think?
