The Premier League of Punting at the Cheltenham Festival

It's advantage Norwich fans after day one of the Cheltenham Festival as the Canaries pocket the most cash

We dig into Paddy Power's book to see which football punters are making the most money at Cheltenham

The Cheltenham Festival is in full swing and punters everywhere are delighted after giving Paddy Power a merciless spanking on Tuesday afternoon. Red-hot favourites Douvan, Annie Power and Vroum Vroum Mag all obliged for Willie Mullins, Ruby Walsh and punters everywhere as Paddy Power had his lucky jocks pulled down.

We’ve crunched the numbers to see which football fans have shown their eye is as keen for racing as it is for 11 over-paid players chasing a pig’s bladder around a field, and it is Norwich fans who are topping the table!

Soak it up Norwich fans, it might be the only time you top a table for a while. The Canaries however have flexed their muscles at Cheltenham and pocketed 306 per cent more than the average punter at the Festival on day one.

Leicester are continuing their assault on the punting table as well as the Premier League with supporters of Claudio Ranieri’s men in second, winning 227 per cent more than the avearge punter. Stoke sneak into third spot, while, as is the way with any table ever invented, Arsenal take fourth place. Gunners fans: Please take this moment to take a selfie and tweet your delight at finishing fourth yet again.

Manchester United fans will be pleased to see they edge out Liverpool for fourth, while their nearest but least dearest rivals Manchester City languish in 16th spot.

Incredibly on a day where it felt like every punter backed a few winners, both Watford and Bournemouth fans conspired to post averages in the minus figures. Fans of the Cherries fared worst of all and if you hear Eddie Howe boasting of any Gold Cup tips for Friday it’s worth staying well clear.
