The Premier League of Punting: Why you should be ringing up Norwich fans for all your Cheltenham Festival tips

Looking for a tip for the Cheltenham Festival? Time to start looking for a Norwich supporter!

The Canaries are singing when it comes to tipping horses, while Manchester United are finally challenging for a title

The Cheltenham Festival is just around the corner, and every man, woman and child (over the age of 18 obviously) is looking for a Festival tip. While it makes sense to check out some of the A-list columnists on the Paddy Power Blog including top jockeys Barry Geraghty, Sam Twiston-Davies, Ruby Walsh, Noel Fehily and Nina Carberry as well racing gurus John McCririck and Matt Chapman (Shameless plug – apologies), it might also pay to dig out any Norwich fans knocking around your Facebook friends.

Get Delia Smith on speed dial, because it is Norwich fans who were the most profitable punters at the Cheltenham Festival last year – pocketing more than seven per cent more than the average punter.

Manchester United and Chelsea fans may be having a miserable time of late, but their tipping is also to be recommended as they made the top three. Liverpool edge a Champions League spot ahead of plucky Tottenham fans, with supporters of the top five clubs all making more money than the average punter at Cheltenham last year.

Unfortunately the news is not so sweet for Premier League table-toppers Leicester City. While Claudio Ranieri’s men are edging towards an unlikely title, their fans couldn’t tip a waiter. Supporters of the Foxes lost 15 per cent more than the average punter over the four-day spectacular last year, while Bournemouth and Swansea fans also posted a double-figure loss.

But do not fear, because 2016 brings about a whole new opportunity of Cheltenham winners and we’ll once again be tracking the Premier League of punting. Get your Tuesday tips of Norwich fans and then keep coming back to the Paddy Power Blog as we update the Premier League of punting.
