The Coral Cup is his speciality
Watch out for Balthazar King and Mendip Express from the Hobbs yard
Cheltenham Festival Wins: 18
Moody Man’s Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle victory in 1990 was the first of Philip Hobbs’ 18 Cheltenham Festival successes but he had to wait six years for his second and then another four years for his third so he has fared significantly better since the turn of the century.
Hasn’t trained a winner in two of the last three years and he is quiet for the Grade 1 races this season. Rooster Booster’s runaway Champion Hurdle victory would be Hobbs’ career highlight to date closely followed by Flagship Uberalles in the Champion Chase.
The Coral Cup has been a favoured race having won it twice as well as to posting five other top-six finishers from 22 runners and he has also registered a brace of victories in the Triumph Hurdle and Cross Country Handicap Chase in which Balthazar King is expected to make his seasonal debut bidding to win the race for the third time.
Mendip Express is an interesting recruit to the stable this season ahead of the Foxhunters Chase.
