Horse Racing tips: A sweet 16/1 shot tops our best bets at York today

The Racing Post’s tipster likes Sunday Sovereign in the 15:50.

14:05 Zip

Ajyaall is easily the least exposed in this field and almost certainly capable of winning something notable off this mark, particularly if gaining a more professional outlook this season since his gelding operation.

He is hugely respected, but testing ground would ask an additional question of him. In such circumstances the three with easily least to prove are ZIP, Tomfre and Escobar who are preferred in that order, with narrow preference for the progressive Zip.

14:40 Makawee

A good-quality renewal of this Group 3 for fillies and mares, with several convincing candidates. Believe In Love carried all before her in a stellar three-year-old campaign and is much respected despite a 3lbs penalty, while Urban Artist has a similarly progressive profile and should also be well suited by the soft conditions.

However, with a fine record at York and a solid bank of useful form, MAKAWEE gets the verdict after shaping encouragingly when narrowly beaten first time out. Mighty Blue, who posted a career best last time, could be her biggest danger.

15:15 Wise Eagle

While Live Your Dream has clear potential in his bid for a hat-trick spread over 19 months, WISE EAGLE‘s recent progress may well extend to a four-timer. That improvement was produced on Tapeta and good to firm ground, but finishing second on soft going on his only start over hurdles offers sufficient encouragement that Wise Eagle can prove effective on today’s surface.

There wasn’t much between Green Planet and Noonday Gun when they finished second and third over 1m 5f at Lingfield recently. Green Planet stayed on the stronger, probably has the greater overall potential and is highly respected despite this shorter trip.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

15:50 Sunday Sovereign

Six of these met over course and distance nine days ago. The admirable Copper Knight came out on top but, on 10lbs better terms, his lightly raced stablemate SUNDAY SOVEREIGN has prospects of turning the tables, with today’s softer ground also likely to play to his strengths.

Tim Easterby’s third runner Count D’Orsay had an excuse that day and heads the shortlist of dangers, with Makanah and Pendleton among other solid contenders.

16:20 Shaladar

The market should be revealing in relation to the newcomers, of which the filly Guilded makes most appeal on paper, but experience can count for plenty and SHALADAR is taken to step up markedly on the form of his Doncaster debut and notch a another two-year-old success this year for Kevin Ryan. Brighton winner Robjon is respected but Hot Diggity Dog may provide the sternest resistance.

16:55 Yorkshire Lady

This can go to YORKSHIRE LADY (NAP) who is well equipped to handle deteriorating conditions and looked to have more to give when going clear at Ripon. Blu Boy has held all-comers at bay on his last two starts but the big rise in the weights, the better company and different ground will ask new questions. Aquaman could turn out the main danger, although Maison De York is also of interest if he copes with the slower ground than at Redcar.

17:25 Markazi

An open event to conclude the card. First choice is MARKAZI, who can run off a career-low mark, has a good course record and shaped as if coming to hand last time. The lightly raced Super Den could be the chief danger, with Parys Mountain, Colonel Whitehead, Blue Skyline and Frankelio others to consider.

York tips summary:

14:40 Makawee
15:15 Wise Eagle
15:50 Sunday Sovereign
16:20 Shaladar
