ZINC WHITE showed ability in minor events at around a mile last season, but he has a pedigree full of stamina, so it was no surprise to see him show much improved form upped to a mile and three quarters at Wetherby last week. That race was run in attritional conditions – they abandoned the meeting afterwards – but Zinc White relished the emphasis on stamina, having plenty in hand at the line despite pulling too hard to in the early stages. Connections wisely turn him out under a 6 lb penalty and, clearly comfortable with ease in the ground, he looks a handicapper to keep on the right side of.
18:25 Greatgadian
GREATGADIAN shaped well on debut behind La Barrosa who has since won a Group 3 and finished second in the Craven Stakes, and didn’t need to improve to land the odds in an ordinary event on his final start last year. He underwent a breathing operation over the winter and showed improved form under a penalty when runner-up to a well-bred newcomer at Windsor on his return earlier this month. He rather threw the race away that day by wandering in the closing stages, but he remains with potential and an opening mark of 87 could underestimate him now stepping up to a trip he is bred to appreciate.
18:55 Highland Avenue
The Heron Stakes has been won by some smart types in recent years and HIGHLAND AVENUE looks another exciting colt. He landed the odds in good style on the all-weather on his first two starts this year but took his form to another level with a smooth success in the Fielden Stakes at Newmarket last month. That form has been franked by the runner-up and Youth Spirit, who won the Chester Vase on his next start. That was over nine furlongs and on good to firm ground, so Highland Avenue has to prove himself as effective on likely slower ground, but the drop back to a mile won’t be a problem and he can confirm himself a smart colt in what looks a very good renewal of this listed event.

19:25 Counsel
COUNSEL sets a useful standard on his runner-up effort at Newbury on his return last month, travelling like the winner for much of the way only to be headed near the line. It is possible he needed the run, while the step up to middle distances will also bring about plenty of improvement. He should prove hard to beat.
19:55 Dramatica
Little between the principals on form, so a chance is taken on DRAMATICA, who has few miles on the clock and should be suited by this step up in trip off what appears a handy-looking mark. One Last Dance didn’t enjoy the rub of the green at Ascot last time and is feared most with in-form Topanticipation worth a second look too.
