An interesting maiden, featuring a number of newcomers that catch the eye. TYSON sets a decent standard on his Doncaster second, and may well be able to make his experience tell.
He was strong in the betting on that occasion, and was only denied by a promising newcomer – with the pair pulling clear of the third. There could be more to come, and he is preferred to Neptune Legend, Noisy Night and Top Exhibit. All of which are newcomers to note.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:45 King Of Clubs
KING OF CLUBS left his previous efforts on the all-weather behind when a short-head second in a big-field novice event over course and distance three weeks ago. He was strong in the betting and shaped particularly well to be beaten just a short head, likely to have won had the pace been stronger.
A repeat of that level may well enable him to go one place better, though Goodwood Glen finished ahead of a next-time-out scorer when runner-up on debut and is another sure-fire improver.
14:20 Legendary Day
LEGENDARY DAY improved with each start last season and was well found in the market ahead of his return at Windsor last week, where he showed improved form on his turf debut.
He was unlucky to bump into another rival ahead of their mark, but the pair pulled nicely clear of the remainder and it is form to be positive about. Legendary Day drops in class now and comes out very well at the weights, so is very hard to oppose with the likelihood of even more to come.
14:55 Horsefly
HORSEFLY will have gone into many notebooks following her reappearance at Windsor last month where she shaped with plenty of promise. She showed ability in three runs over shorter last season, but appeared to relish the step up to a mile-and-a-quarter and left the impression she has much more to offer over middle distances.
Horsefly was given a patient ride, but failed to settle in the early stages and met some trouble in running two furlongs from home when starting to move into contention. She ran on well once switched out, but the winner had already flown. That form looks solid with the runner-up winning next time and the winner running well in defeat, so Horsefly is of plenty of interest having been left on the same mark.
15:30 Cochise
There is plenty of rain around at the moment and that will suit the claims of COCHISE, who seemingly hasn’t been the easiest to train. But, he relished testing conditions when resuming winning ways over a mile-and-three quarters at this course earlier this month.
He looked well ahead of her mark that day, leading on the bridle entering the straight and staying on well when asked to win his race in the final furlong. Cochise is already proven at 2m and could in fact improve again for the return to this trip. There is plenty to like about his claims under conditions which will suit.
16:00 Tiny Danser
The ground may well be slower than TINY DANSER has previously encountered, but the same can be said for a good number of her rivals. Kevin Ryan’s charge chased home a stable companion who was clearly well ahead of his mark at Pontefract recently, in turn pulling clear of the rest.
She gets the nod to go one place better and open her account. Likely-improver Three Hat Day looks the biggest danger.
16:30 The Thin Blue Line
THE THIN BLUE LINE signed off his juvenile season with a win in a nursery at Newcastle and he ran creditably on his return from six months off when hitting the frame in a handicap at Thirsk from a 6lbs higher mark 10 days ago.
That effort is worth marking up as he fared comfortably the best of those who were drawn high in a race where the low-drawn numbers dominated the finish. There should be more to come from him this season and he is entitled to strip fitter for that run, so he is expected to build on that now.
